Glenn Howells

Glenn Howells established Glenn Howells Architects (GHA) in 1990 and since then has built a strong reputation for designing innovative, award winning buildings and shaping cities throughout the UK.

GHA has offices in Birmingham and London, it has won numerous major design competitions and built a portfolio of completed award winning projects across all sectors and across a diverse range of building types. Key projects include Savill Building, London City Island, The National Memorial Arboretum, English National Ballet HQ and a 55-storey tower in London’s Docklands.

Glenn has led some of Britain’s most complex and ambitious regeneration projects and has been particularly influential in shaping Birmingham. The practice has advised Birmingham City Council on regeneration of the city including the Big City Plan and is involved in major regeneration projects of Paradise, Brindley Place and HS2 alongside significant projects in the city core, Jewellery Quarter, Commonwealth Games Athletes’ Village, Digbeth and the Westside of the City.

Outside GHA, Glenn has been involved in an advisory role for several leading cultural and education organisations including Ikon Gallery, Design Midlands, RIBA, CABE, Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, University of Warwick, Birmingham City University and Birmingham Hippodrome. In 2018 he was appointed as Visiting Professor at Birmingham City University’s School of Architecture and Design. Glenn became a Trustee of Birmingham Hippodrome in 2012 and was made Chair in December 2018.
