Senior Scientist II, Computational Biology at bit.bio

Richard Hickman has extensive work experience in the field of computational biology. Richard is currently a Senior Scientist II at bit.bio, a position they have held since April 2023. Prior to this, they served as a Senior Scientist I at the same company from April 2020 to April 2023.

Before joining bit.bio, Richard worked as a Research Associate at the University of York from September 2019 to April 2020.

Richard's earlier work experience includes roles at Universiteit Utrecht, where they served as a Senior postdoctoral researcher from January 2015 to September 2019. In this role, they led the design, analysis, and implementation of large-scale genomics projects and managed a team of PhD students and technicians. Additionally, they mentored a PhD candidate towards the successful defense of their thesis.

Prior to their role at Universiteit Utrecht, Richard worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher from January 2012 to January 2015. During this time, they developed a bioinformatics pipeline for the analysis of next-generation sequencing data and conducted analysis on high-resolution time series data to gain insights into gene regulatory networks. Richard also led the computational analysis component of a multi-university consortium project.

Richard Hickman has a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Bioinformatics, which they obtained from the University of Birmingham from 2003 to 2006. Richard then pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Intelligent Systems Engineering, also at the University of Birmingham, from 2006 to 2007. Richard furthered their education at the University of Warwick, where they obtained a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Systems biology from 2007 to 2008. Finally, Richard completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Systems Biology at the University of Warwick from 2008 to 2012.
