Philip Hartlieb has a long history of work experience, beginning in 2002 with a Postdoctoral Research Associate role at Clemson University. philip then moved to Rutgers University in 2004, where they were a Post Doctoral Associate. In 2005, they became a Supervisor/Technical Support Coordinator at Verizon Wireless. In 2006, they began working as a Project Manager at Life Cycle Engineering. In 2010, Philip began working for the United States Department of Defense, where they held roles as Director, Red Team Services, Operator, Red Team Services, and Security Engineer. In 2013, they Co-Founded and became a Research Scientist for Black Lantern Security LLC. philip is currently Co-Founded and a Research Scientist for BLS Government Services.

Philip Hartlieb received a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Physics from SUNY Geneseo in 1997, after studying there from 1993 to 1997. philip then went on to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Materials Science and Engineering from North Carolina State University, which they completed in 2002. philip has also obtained several certifications, including a Machine Learning certification from Coursera Course Certificates in 2018, a GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH) certification from SANS Institute in 2011, a GIAC Penetration Tester (GPEN) certification from SANS Institute in 2015, a GIAC Web Application Penetration Tester (GWAPT) certification from SANS Institute in 2011, and a GIAC Cybersecurity Leadership Certification (GSLC) from SANS Institute in 2010.
