Pauline Bariola has extensive experience in analytical development and QC oversight. Pauline began their career in 2001 as a Scientist II at EDEN Bioscience Corp., where they isolated and characterized a family of crop plant genes encoding proteins that bind harpin. In 2003, they joined GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals North America (formerly ID Biomedical) as a Scientist II/III, where they performed biophysical characterization of fusion proteins used as antigens in plague and streptococcal vaccines, and designed, coordinated, and performed formulation and stability studies for plague vaccine. In 2007, they became a Research Scientist at Nastech Pharmaceutical Company, where they designed, executed, and analyzed formulations support studies and stability studies for nasal-spray pharmaceuticals. In 2008, they moved to Allozyne as a Scientist in Analytical Biochemistry, where they developed and performed methods to characterize PEGylated protein drugs. In 2012, they joined Bristol-Myers Squibb as a Sr. Scientist II and Analytical CMC Team Lead in Analytical Development & Testing/BioProcess Development, where they acted as analytical CMC lead and supervised a team of scientists in developing, qualifying, executing, and transferring purity, concentration, impurity, and excipient methods. In 2020, they became an Associate Director, Analytical Development at Zymeworks Inc., where they oversaw analytical development and lifecycle management within the Technical and Manufacturing Operations division, leading the analytical development group. Most recently, in 2022, they joined Blaze Bioscience as the Director, Analytical Development and QC Oversight, where they oversee analytical work performed at Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs) related to product characterization, method validation, release and stability testing, and method lifecycle management.
Pauline Bariola has a diverse educational background. Pauline completed a B.S. in Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Pauline then went on to obtain a Ph.D in Biochemistry from Michigan State University. Afterward, they completed a postdoctoral program in Plant Biology at the University of Lausanne - UNIL. Finally, they obtained a Certificate in Intellectual Property Management from the University of Washington.
