Vicky Leech Mateos has a diverse work experience within the publishing industry. Vicky started their career as a Publishing Assistant and Administrator at Oxford University Press in 2013. Vicky then moved on to work as an Assistant Editor at the Felicity Bryan Literary Agency, where they gained experience in reading submissions, editing manuscripts, and handling contracts.

In 2013, Vicky joined HarperCollins Publishers as an Assistant Editor in the Collins Learning division, where they worked on reading schemes for the Education list. Vicky later transitioned to Bloomsbury Publishing Plc, where they worked as an Assistant Editor for their Children's Books division. Their role included working across various genres such as young fiction, middle grade, and YA fiction. During their time at Bloomsbury, they served as the UK editor for authors like Emery Lord, Danielle Page, Elizabeth Eulberg, and Paul Tobin.

Vicky's next role at HarperCollins was as the Editor of the Harper Voyager imprint. Vicky held this position from 2017 to 2021 and was responsible for commissioning and editing books in the fantasy and science fiction genres. In 2021, they transitioned to the role of Commissioning Editor and later became the Senior Commissioning Editor in 2022. Vicky then took on the position of Editorial Director from August 2022 until June 2023.

Most recently, Vicky joined Bloomsbury Publishing Plc as the Publishing Director starting in July 2023.

Vicky Leech Mateos has a strong background in English Literature. Vicky attended the University of Exeter from 2008 to 2011, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature with a focus on North American studies. During their undergraduate years, Vicky also had the opportunity to study abroad. Later, from 2011 to 2013, they pursued further education at the same institution, earning a Master of Arts degree in English Literature Studies. Vicky's educational journey has provided their with a comprehensive understanding of the field and has prepared their for a career in English literature.
