Justin Clifford Smith

Justin Clifford Smith has a diverse range of work experience in the field of data science and machine learning. Justin Clifford is currently working at Blue Shield of California as a Principal Data Scientist. Prior to that, they worked at Caresyntax as a Lead Machine Learning Scientist, where they led the development of machine learning systems and collaborated with cross-functional teams. Before that, they were a Principal Data Scientist at Optum, where they managed a team and optimized production software. Justin Clifford also worked as a Senior Data Scientist at Optum, where they improved a medical record classification model and implemented TensorFlow. In addition to their industry experience, Justin has also worked as an Instructor at Udacity, where they taught a course on deploying machine learning models in production. Justin Clifford has also worked as a Data Scientist and AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the U.S. Census Bureau, where they developed classification models and improved accuracy. Justin holds a Ph.D. in Physics and has conducted research at various universities, including UCLA and UC Davis.

Justin Clifford Smith attended the University of California, Davis from 2008 to 2012, where they earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics. Following that, they pursued further education at UC Irvine, graduating in 2017 with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Condensed Matter Physics. In September 2016, they also obtained a certification in Basic Mediation Training from the Orange County Human Relations Commission.
