Lindsay Knight, PhD

Lindsay Knight, PhD has a diverse range of work experience. Currently, they serve as the Executive Vice President of Social Impact at Blue Star Families, where they lead the Programs, Applied Research, and Policy teams to create a unified social impact function. Lindsay is an expert and advisor in the social impact area and plays a key role in the organization's strategic transformation efforts.

Prior to their current role, Lindsay worked at Specialized Bicycle Components as the Leader of Community Engagement & Strategic Initiatives. Lindsay was responsible for developing and embedding equity practices across the organization, focusing on organizational design, community outreach, partnerships, inclusive product design, and culture change. Lindsay also designed and implemented a global Equity Strategy and provided guidance and support to various teams within the company.

Lindsay was also a thought partner at Outride, an SBC-associated 501(c)3, where they worked on community and industry outreach strategy, grant-making practices, and internal systems design. Outride's mission is to diversify the next generation of cyclists and empower kids on two wheels across the US.

Before their work in the cycling industry, Lindsay was the Senior Director of Community Engagement at Chicago Ideas. Lindsay built the community engagement initiative from the ground up, collaborating with partners across a network of nonprofits and increasing socioeconomic diversity in the audience.

Lindsay also has experience in education, having worked as a Social Science Instructor and Advisor at Noble Network of Charter Schools, where they developed and implemented a social science curriculum with a focus on race, politics, social change, and civic engagement. Lindsay was also involved in advocacy efforts to address punitive disciplinary practices aimed at students of color.

Lindsay's earlier work includes roles at the University of Chicago, where they served as a Project & Development Manager, a MAPSS Preceptor, a Lecturer and Instructor, and a Coordinator for the Political Theory Workshop. Lindsay also held positions at Experimental Station, where they served as the Assistant Director (Interim) and the Program and New Initiatives Coordinator for Blackstone Bicycle Works, and at UC Davis Graduate School of Management and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business as a research assistant.

Subsequently, they pursued a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Political Science and Government, which they successfully completed in 2009. Building on their academic achievements, Lindsay then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Political Science and Government, which they completed in 2015.
