Joel Kanvik is the current Chief Legal Officer at Blueknight Energy Partners. Joel has held this position since November 2016. Prior to that, they were the Director, U.S. Law & Assistant Secretary - Environmental and Business Law at Enbridge Energy Company from January 2001 to November 2016.

During their time at Enbridge Energy Company, Joel Kanvik was responsible for counselling corporations/limited partnerships on legal and business management, developing contracts and licenses, IP, and corporate governance including SEC reporting/compliance and due diligence pursuant to equity offerings. Joel also advised Human Resources and steered all facets of employment and business-related matters. In addition, they mentored and managed 7 attorneys, 4 paralegals, and other staff members to ensure seamless task execution in a high-volume project-based legal department.

Some of the notable projects Joel Kanvik worked on during their time at Enbridge Energy Company include the $4.0B Southern Access/Southern Lights/Alberta Clipper expansion programs (2003-2008), which brought over 800,000 barrels of oil transportation capacity online for the company, and the $2.5B Gulf Access Pipeline joint venture (2008-2009), which provided the groundwork for the Seaway Pipeline acquisition and the Flanagan South project. Joel also served as the lead counsel for the $2.8B Flanagan South Pipeline Project (2011-2016), which allowed Canadian-produced crude oil to reach the US refining complex.

Joel Kanvik attended the University of Wisconsin Law School, where they earned their JD. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at Northwestern University.

Joel Kanvik reports to Andrew Woodward, CEO and Interim Chief Financial Officer. Joel Kanvik works with Jeff Speer - Chief Operating Officer, Rich Adams - Vice President of Crude Operations, and Michael Mclanahan - Chief Accounting Officer.
