                                   Private Equity - Investment Director

BlueOrchard’s Private Equity team manages insuresilience investment strategies, which focus on driving the penetration of climate insurance in emerging markets with the objective of building climate resilience. The total AUM is more than USD 150m.

In this role, you will drive the origination and execution of private equity transactions  in the value chain of climate insurance solutions (insurance companies, brokers, climate tech and financial intermediaries) across emerging and frontier markets in Asia. Based in Singapore, you will work closely with BlueOrchard’s local investment team in Asia.

Key tasks and responsibilities

Sourcing

  • Originate deals in relevant sectors across South and Southeast Asia;
  • Build strong network with relevant intermediaries and investors in the ecosystem;
  • Attend necessary events to build and maintain relationships;
  • Landscape the entire market;

Execution

  • Through analysis of deals across all aspects including market potential, financial, deal structures and valuation;
  • Manage internal approval process for the deal. Present the deals for internal, impact committee and investment committee approvals. Prepare high quality deal collaterals including investment memo and financial models to be presented at such meetings;
  • Negotiate term sheets;
  • Conduct through diligence ;
  • Handle the documentation and closing of deals;

Portfolio management

  • Build strong relationships with the management teams of portfolio companies;
  • Manage value creation activities across portfolio;
  • Represent BlueOrchard on the boards of portfolio companies, if needed;
  • Handle internal process including reporting and valuation of portfolio;

Exit

  • Be proactive in identifying exit paths and work systematically towards exit;

Others

  • Support fundraising initiatives and activities;

  • Guide analysts and associates and help them grow;

  • Communicate effectively with internal BlueOrchard teams including legal and impact.

Required skills and experience

  • 8-15 years of relevant work experience with a leading firm in Private Equity, Venture Capital or M&A advisory preferably in Southeast Asia and / or South Asia;

  • End to end transaction experience from sourcing to closing and exit; Exit experience is considered valuable;

  • Prior experience in insurance / financial services / technology investing is preferred. Climate knowledge is a plus;

  • Strong network of investors and / or intermediaries in Southeast Asia and / or South Asia;

  • Strong analytical and technical skills (including financial modelling);

  • Graduate from a leading university or Business School;

  • Fluent in English, fluency in Southeast Asian languages is a plus;

  • Singaporean Citizens and PRs will be given preference.
