Ashwin West has a diverse work experience spanning over several companies and roles. Ashwin started their career at TMP Worldwide UK, where they held various project management positions focused on digital advertising. Ashwin then moved on to Subterra, a division of Thames Water, where they worked as a Design Co-ordinator, overseeing maintenance and rehabilitation projects. Ashwin also worked at Aurecon as an Associate, providing consulting services to clients in the water and power sectors.

In 2010, Ashwin joined African Infrastructure Investment Managers (AIIM) as an Investment Director. In this role, they were responsible for investment origination, deal screening, due diligence activities, transaction structuring, and negotiation of commercial contracts. Ashwin also played an active role on the board of directors of portfolio companies and served as a non-executive director on the boards of various companies.

Most recently, Ashwin joined BlueOrchard Finance Ltd as the Head of Sustainable Infrastructure Investments. Ashwin leads the Sustainable Infrastructure Investment practice, targeting investment opportunities that address climate change and close the SDG funding gap.

Ashwin West attended St. George's Grammar School for their secondary education. Ashwin then went on to the University of Cape Town, where they earned a Bachelor of Science degree and later pursued an Honours degree in the same field. Following this, Ashwin completed an MBA program at the Graduate School of Business at the University of Cape Town, with a specialization in Finance and Strategy. Lastly, they attended the Stellenbosch Business School for the Africa Directors Programme.
