Jelmer Hekman has a diverse range of work experience. Jelmer began their career in 2015 at van der Valk Hotel Vianen, where they worked as a Bediending for two years. In 2016, they joined Innovatec Hatchery Automation, initially as a Stage role for four months, then as a Machine Builder for two years, and finally as a Field Service Engineer from May 2018 until June 2021. Since 2021, Jelmer has been working at BluePrint Automation (BPA), starting as a Test Engineer and subsequently transitioning to their current role as a Field Service Engineer. The specific dates for their roles at BPA are not provided.

Jelmer Hekman attended Rocva from 2015 to 2018, where they obtained a degree in Mechatronica BBL at Niveau 4. In addition to their formal education, Jelmer has acquired several certifications. In May 2018, they completed a course entitled "Machinebouw Mechatronica (Mechatronicus)" at Roc van Amsterdam. Later, in October 2018, Jelmer obtained a certification in "Service monteur als ambassadeur" from ROVC Technische Opleidingen. Jelmer further enhanced their skills by earning a certification in "Elektrisch schakelen" from the same institution in February 2021. Most recently, Jelmer completed two certifications related to Simatic S7 programming with TIA Portal: "SIMATIC S7 Systeemcursus 1B met TA Portal" in December 2021 from Siemens and "Simatic S7 Programmeren met TIA Portal" in January 2022, also from Siemens.
