Jim Salem

VP, Engineering at Blues Wireless

Jim Salem has over 25 years of work experience in the technology industry. Jim began their career in 1995 as the Director of Web Hosting Engineering at BBN, where they managed a 45-person engineering team. In 1999, they co-founded Turning Mill Software as the VP of Engineering, where they were involved in all aspects of the business, hired an exceptional development team, and designed and implemented a scalable hosting architecture. In 2000, they joined Intuit as an Architect and Engineering Group Manager, where they were a key contributor to the creation and development of the QuickBase service. In 2008, they became a Visiting Scientist at the MIT Media Lab, where they increased the value of the Media Lab sponsorship of lab through multiple open innovation initiatives. From 2009 to 2012, they were the VP of Engineering at Endurance International Group, responsible for engineering practices across 6 major US and international offices. In 2014, they became the Chief Architect at Backupify (acquired by Datto). In 2016, they joined Komand (acquired by Rapid7) as the CTO, where they built an ultimate IT security analysis platform. In 2017, they joined Oracle as a Senior Director and Director of Software Development, leading an edge networking team for Oracle's Cloud. Most recently, in 2021, they joined Blues Wireless as the VP of Engineering.

Jim Salem attended Principia College from 1979 to 1980, studying Engineering. Jim then attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1981 to 1984, obtaining their S.B. in Electrical Engineering.
