Jochen Schmitz

Director Immunology & Respiratory Disease Research at Boehringer Ingelheim

Jochen Schmitz currently holds the position of Director of Immunology & Respiratory Disease Research at Boehringer Ingelheim since February 2021. Prior to this role, Jochen Schmitz served at Eli Lilly and Company from November 2011 to January 2021, where titles included Research Advisor and Principal Research Scientist, focusing on Autoimmune Translational Sciences. Jochen's experience began at Rigel, working as a Senior Scientist from August 2005 to December 2010, contributing to the development of small-molecule drugs for inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. Earlier positions include roles as Scientist II and Scientist I at DNAX from October 2001 to July 2005, where Jochen Schmitz was notably the first to identify and characterize interleukin-33. Academic achievements include a Ph.D. in Immunology from RWTH Aachen University and a Master's degree in Chemistry from the University of Münster.
