Dave Smith began their work experience as a Freelance Designer at The Letter D in 2006. Dave then worked as a Graphic Designer at E Productions in 2007, where they were responsible for redesigning identity and marketing materials. Dave also worked as a Graphic Designer at Bench Craft Company in 2007, where they redesigned the company's website and directed product photoshoots. Dave later worked as a Graphic Designer at Image Media from 2007 to 2013, where they focused on designing and layout for posters, advertisements, and large format projects. Dave also collaborated with the Home Builders Association for major events.

In 2013, Dave worked as a Production Designer at Nike Golf, where they handled global brand design projects. Dave then worked as a Freelance Designer at HERENOW Creative Network from 2013 to 2015, followed by a role as a Visual Designer at Aquent also from 2013 to 2015. From 2015 to 2017, Dave worked as a Designer at Fiction.

Currently, Dave is employed at Bolt Threads as a Senior Visual Designer, starting from June 2022.

Dave Smith obtained their Bachelor of Science degree in Graphic Design from Portland State University, specializing in Graphic Design & Advertising. Dave attended Portland State University from 2004 to 2006. Prior to that, they completed an associate's degree in Art/Art Studies at Portland Community College from 2001 to 2004.

In terms of additional certifications, Dave has obtained several qualifications through LinkedIn. In 2023, they acquired certifications in "Designing Microinteractions with Figma" and "FigJam for Designers."
