Matthias Schmid

As Senior Vice President of Trips Division, Matthias Schmid oversees Booking.com’s acceleration into new verticals beyond accommodation. He leads strategy across car rentals, flights, taxis, attractions, insurance and manages the teams that connect all these verticals together for an even more seamless end-to-end experience for all travellers.

Originally from Zurich, Switzerland, Matthias has more than 20 years’ leadership experience in the airline and travel tech industry. He’s lived and worked in seven countries across three continents for some of the world's leading brands – including KLM. Prior to joining Booking.com, he spent more than a decade with Emirates. As Emirates’ Senior Vice President for North America, he led the US expansion of the carrier in their biggest source market.

Matthias studied in Switzerland and Austria and holds an MBA from the Vienna University of Economics & Business. He currently lives in Manchester, which is also home to Booking.com’s second largest campus.
