Lukas Merkle

Lukas Merkle is an accomplished engineering professional with a diverse background in robotics and mechanical engineering. Currently serving as Associate Engineering Lead at Boston Dynamics since July 2020, Lukas has held several key roles including State Estimation Team Lead, Staff Perception Engineer, and Perception Engineer. Prior experience includes an internship at STILL GmbH, where Lukas evaluated Visual SLAM algorithms and developed real-time SLAM systems for autonomous forklifts. Lukas has also worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Arizona, contributing to wind tunnel component modeling and system design, as well as conducting experiments with particle image velocimetry. Additional internship experience includes analysis of CNC machine effectiveness at Premium AEROTEC GmbH. Lukas holds a Master of Science in Robotic Systems Development from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Finance and Mathematics from the University of Arizona.
