Jennifer Alfaro Formas has been working in the field of biotechnology since 2009. Jennifer began their career as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Fundación Ciencia & Vida, where they led a group of 3 Ph.D. students. In 2013, they joined the Medivation collaboration program with Fundacion Ciencia y Vida as a Senior Scientist. From 2016 to 2018, they worked at Merken Biotech as a Senior Scientist and then as a Scientific Director. In 2018, they joined uBiome as a Technical Lead Scientist, where they formulated and implemented strategies for four drug discovery programs, designed and executed experiments for primary screening and proof of concept studies, developed assays for testing peptide agonists against transmembrane, immunological drug targets, and developed a high throughput platform to discover binding partners against selected recombinant proteins using phage immunoprecipitation technique. Currently, Jennifer is the Head of R&D Pharma at Botanical Solutions Spa.
Jennifer Alfaro Formas has a diverse educational background. Jennifer obtained a Licenciatura en Ciencias in Biología, general from Universidad de Chile in 2003. Jennifer then went on to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Molecular, Celullar biology and neuroscience from the same university from 2006 to 2008. During their doctoral studies, they completed an internship at the University of Virginia in Immunology from 2006 to 2007. More recently, they completed a Diplomado en desarrollo y gestión de la innovación from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in 2021. Jennifer has also obtained various certifications, such as a 1ra Jornada Virtual de Microbiota from NUX-LAB in 2022, a Formación de consultores from Smart Placement Outplacement in 2022, an Introduction to the Biology of Cancer from Coursera Course Certificates in 2016, a Flow Cytometry Core Facility Training Course from University of Virginia, an Innate immunity against pathogens from AMSUD-PASTER, a MACSQuant Instrument Training from Miltenyi Biotec, a Summer school of cell Biology from Universidad de Chile-Institute Curie, and a Workshop on colony management: Principles and Practices from Fundación Ciencia y Vida- The Jackson Laboratory.
