Position Summary

The Business Development Officer – Work Integrated Learning (WIL) reports to the Manager of Employer Relations. In this role, the main responsibility is to meet Bow Valley College's Work Integrated Learning targets and goals. This involves identifying, developing, maintaining, and expanding relationships with various industries and employers to secure experiential learning opportunities for Bow Valley College students.

Position responsibilities and accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Positions Bow Valley College as the top choice for employers seeking Work Integrated Learning (WIL) partnerships.
  • Utilizes an analytical and data-informed approach to conduct market research to understand the assigned industry sectors and identify target employers and industry partners that align with Work Integrated Learning opportunities.
  • Identifies, develops, manages, maintains, and expands relationships with a wide range of organizations, including for-profit, non-profit, community organizations, economic development entities, chambers of commerce, financial institutions, and governmental agencies.
  • Drives the onboarding process for new industry partners by understanding their business objectives, needs, and gaps, and developing detailed deliverables accordingly. This includes managing the sales funnel for employers, creating the employer profile in the CRM, supporting employers to upload WIL opportunities in Orbis, and other systems as required.
  • Utilizes technologies such as Orbis, Dynamics 365, Eventbrite, Power BI, and social media platforms to plan, outreach, recruit, track maintain, and expand relationships with existing and new employers.
  • Collaborates with College stakeholders such as Academic, Student Services, Marketing, , Alumni Engagement teams to execute strategic and operational plans
  • Tracks prospecting and recruiting statistics and prepares periodic summary reports.
  • Prepares activity reports, debriefing documents and makes recommendations to improve the overall process.

Required qualifications:

  • Post-secondary Diploma.

  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience working with industry and community partners in Business Development and Work Integrated Learning.

  • A strong knowledge and experience with Capstone projects.

  • Ability to strategize and plan multiple high-priority deliverables with competing demands.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, Dynamics 365, Orbis, Power BI, Eventbrite among others.

  • Strong knowledge of Business industry, along with a robust network of contacts in the profit and non-profit sectors.

  • Proven experience in connecting students with organizations to complete their capstone projects, service learning, and placements.

  • In-depth understanding of how complex relationships and interests of various stakeholders intersect and influence each other.

  • Experience effectively engaging with culturally diverse stakeholders.

  • Ability to identify and leverage strategically and/or tactically valuable opportunities.

  • In-depth understanding of the industries/marketplaces aligned with Bow Valley College programs.

  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills.

  • Ability to problem solve through critical thinking.

  • Corporate communications experience.

  • An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered.

  • Fluency (reading, writing, and speaking) in the language(s) other than English.

  • Ability to travel.

  • Valid passport and ability to obtain international or business visas without restriction.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
