Position Summary

As a Finance Business Partner, you'll elevate strategic finance support for a diverse client portfolio. Collaborating closely with senior leadership and department heads, you'll tailor advice on budgeting, forecasting, and planning to drive the realization of strategic business goals. Position responsibilities and accountabilities include but are not limited to:

Budget, Forecasting and Variance Analysis

  • Lead the annual integrated budget planning and preparation process for the assigned portfolios. Review to ensure alignment and integration with the college's overall strategy and plans.
  • Lead the preparation of departmental forecasting and planning, including regular budget to actual variance analysis and forecasts.
  • Manage budget/financial change initiatives including the identification of required changes and recommended courses of action.
  • Ensure management is appropriately apprised of all budgetary, business, and financial issues affecting departments.
  • Work closely with VPA/Academic department and Business Intelligence and Analytics (BIA) to prepare new program proposals to the government.
  • Provide a wide variety of ad hoc reporting and financial analysis to enable timely and effective decision making.
  • Participate in the development of proposals and business cases for new initiatives, including financial modeling and sensitivity analysis.
  • Serve as a conduit to share School and Business Unit perspectives and ideas to integrate into institutional level planning, policy, and procedure development.

Management of Financial Resources

  • Oversees expenditure and revenues ensuring compliance with regulatory, granting agency
  • Leads and manages the client department’s year end processes including accurate accruals, performance of variance analysis and maintenance of appropriate documentation/audit trail.
  • Mentors and trains new administrative professional and support staff in relation to financial and budgetary practices

Strategic Analysis and Advisory Services

  • Develops regular financial reporting and ad hoc reporting to assist senior management in the strategic decision-making process; financial reporting to include high level variance analysis and forecasting to highlight issues.

  • Supports the administration of risk management and legislative compliance strategies and processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration (Accounting) or Master of Arts (Economics).
  • CPA Designation is an asset.
  • 5 years or more of direct financial analysis experience at progressively more senior level.
  • Excellent communicator with strong written and verbal skills.
  • An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Advanced excel skills in using advanced function for data modeling,
  • Extensive work experience in various accounting functions including budget, forecasting and financial analysis (5 plus years).
  • Experience with PSAS Financial Reporting is preferred.
