Kary Kankey

Director, Healthy Lifestyles at Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City

Kary Kankey is the current Director of Healthy Lifestyles at Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City. Kary has held this position since July 2021.

Prior to their current role, Kankey served as Head Softball Coach at Metropolitan Community College-Kansas City from August 2014 to July 2021. During their tenure at MCC-KC, they led the team to four conference championships and three NJCAA Region XVI tournament appearances.

From November 2012 to July 2014, Kankey was the Assistant Softball Coach at MidAmerica Nazarene University. During their time at MNU, they helped lead the team to a conference championship and an NAIA World Series appearance.

Before their coaching career, Kankey was the owner of KRJ Fastpitch Consulting, a softball instruction business, from January 2011 to November 2012. Kary also worked as a softball instructor at Bulls/Sox Training Academy from September 2010 to August 2012.

Kankey began their coaching career as the Head Softball Coach at Norfolk State University from July 2005 to May 2010. During their time at NSU, they led the team to two conference championships and two NCAA tournament appearances.

Kankey has also held positions as a Regional Admissions Representative at Defiance College from August 2011 to August 2012 and as a Head Softball Coach/Assistant Volleyball Coach at Defiance College from July 2000 to May 2005.

Kary started their professional career as a Graduate Assistant Coach for both basketball and softball at Bluffton University from January 1998 to December 2000.

Kankey is a graduate of Bluffton University, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education with a concentration in Sport Management.

Kary Kankey earned a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management from the University of Dayton. Kary then went on to earn a Master of Education in Sports Administration from Bowling Green State University.

Kary Kankey reports to Dred Scott, President & CEO. They are on a team with Michelle Ruffin - Director, Safety, Compliance & Prevention, Molly Groebe - Director, Philanthropy, and Cameron James - Unit Director, Hawthorne.
