Barb Peterson has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Barb began their career at Omaha Public Schools in 1994, where they worked as a Sign Language Interpreter until 2000. Following this, they joined Boys Town National Research Hospital as a Research Assistant in 2000 and continued in this role until 2010. In 2009, they also worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Iowa until 2013. Later, in 2012, they returned to Boys Town National Research Hospital, this time as a Research Lab Manager.
Barb Peterson obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Sociology and Psychology from Northern State University, a school they attended from 1978 to 1980. Afterward, they pursued a Master's degree in Human Development at The University of Kansas from 1988 to 1990.
