Asa Yeamans

Asa Yeamans is currently a Senior DevSecOps & Cloud Native Engineer at BrainGu. Prior to this, they worked as a Systems Development Engineer II at Amazon from July 2013 to June 2020. In this role, Asa assisted with maintenance of the computer science department by managing system reimaging, remote system management, user management, and software installation as well as developing scripts and automating programs to simplify system administration. They also created a network-wide Windows-client iSCSI-net-boot system based on FreeBSD ZFS high-speed storage SAN and custom image-management tools.

As an administrator, Asa redeveloped a Perl-based website to allow students to upload assignments. The application pulled data from department databases to minimize staff effort and placed the files directly into staff user directories in a secure, confidential, and simple manner. Students also were provided with immediate feedback through an exposed validation API for instructors to use. In addition, they developed a simple, one-step installer to replace the multi-step, error-prone Eclipse C++ environment installation instructions and facilitate rapid and error-free installations.

Asa was also responsible for conducting lab sessions for the CS1428 Introductory Computer Science class and instructing students on how to develop programs as part of their first exposure of programming. They provided additional, one-on-one instruction for students to assist them in understanding any of the topics covered in any computer science classes. Lastly, they maintained Department of Computer Science systems and assisted in their management - redeveloping a Perl-based website to allow students to upload assignments so that it ties directly into department databases to minimize instructor effort in managing assignments and to ease student interaction with it; and facilitating easier and higher quality system administration by developing scripts and automating programs to simplify system administration in addition to basic system maintenance tasks.

Asa Yeamans has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Texas State University and a Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering from The University of Texas at Dallas. Asa also attended Austin Community College and Fern Bluff Elementary.
