Matthew Badger

Head of Data Science & Engineering at Branch Energy

Matthew Badger has extensive experience in various roles within the energy industry. Matthew started their career at RWE npower as a Risk Analyst, where they were responsible for creating and maintaining risk models for gas and power markets. Matthew then joined Apple as a Genius, providing technical support to customers and performing repairs on computers and mobile devices. At Coventry University, they worked as a Research Assistant on a project focused on problem-solving in mathematics departments.

Matthew later joined Just Energy, starting as a Senior Commercial Analyst and eventually becoming the Head of Quantitative Structuring for Europe. In this role, they oversaw non-commodity cost elements in multiple countries and provided quantitative analysis and modeling to the business. Matthew also played a crucial role in preparing the company's systems for a sale.

After Just Energy, Matthew joined Shell as a Tech Lead in the Energy Retail division, where they worked on the Energy Platform. Most recently, they became the Head of Data Science & Engineering at Branch Energy, where they lead the design and construction of the company's data platform and manages a team of data engineers and scientists.

Matthew Badger has a strong educational background in mathematics. Matthew obtained their Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Mathematics from The University of Sheffield, where they studied from 2002 to 2006. Prior to that, they attended King Edward VI Five Ways in Birmingham from 1995 to 2002. Matthew then pursued higher education at the University of Birmingham, where they completed their Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) degree in Mathematics from 2007 to 2009. Matthew further continued their studies at the University of Birmingham and received their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Mathematics from 2009 to 2013.
