Andrew McNicol

Andrew McNicol has a diverse work experience in the information security field. Andrew started as a Geek Squad Agent in 2003 before moving on to work with GoBeyondIT/Evolution LLC as a Systems Engineer in 2009. Andrew eventually worked with Secure Mission Solutions as a Principal Security Consultant and Team Lead where they developed their skills in penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, malware analysis, continuous monitoring, incident response, threat research, tool development, technical course development, and training. Subsequently, they became a Co-Founder and Security Researcher for Primal Security, a blog and podcast dedicated to advancing knowledge in information security. In 2013, they began working with SANS Institute as a SANS Mentor for Network Penetration Testing and Ethical Hacking, where they taught until January 2021. Presently, they are a Chief Technology Officer for BreakPoint Labs, an organization offering both offensive and defensive security services that specialize in both traditional enterprise environments as well as critical infrastructure ranging from various commercial industries to Local / Federal Government and the DoD.

Andrew McNicol received their B.S. in Information Systems from Towson University in 2010 and their M.S. in Information Assurance (IA) from Capitol Technology University in 2013. Andrew has since obtained numerous certifications in various areas of cybersecurity, including the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and various GIAC certifications from the SANS Institute. Andrew also holds certifications from Offensive Security, EC-Council, Linux Professional Institute, CompTIA, and Microsoft.
