Maria Leis

Maria is passionate about decarbonization and comes to Breakthrough Energy with several years of experience in climate and energy policy. She supports BE Europe’s EU-level policy engagement and Germany strategy.

Before joining Breakthrough Energy, she worked for the Volkswagen Group Representation in Brussels, shaping the regulatory conditions for electric vehicles and smart mobility. Prior to that, she worked for Vestas Wind Systems’ Public Affairs Team, advocating for renewable energy.

Maria has a background in international business and politics. She holds a Master’s degree from Copenhagen Business School. During her studies, she also lived in Turkey and China.

In her free time, she enjoys long-distance running, yoga, reading a good book, and having friends over for dinner.
