Dean of the Undergraduate School & the College of Fine Arts & Humanities at Brenau University

Andrea​ ​C.​ ​Birch​ ​​is​ ​dean​ ​of​ ​the​ ​Brenau​ ​University​ ​College​ ​of​ ​Fine​ ​Arts​ ​&​ ​Humanities,​ ​a position​ ​she​ ​has​ ​held​ ​since​ ​1999.​ ​She​ ​oversees​ ​six​ ​academic​ ​departments,​ ​the​ ​Honors program​ ​and​ ​the​ ​Brenau​ ​University​ ​Galleries.​ ​She​ ​helped​ ​develop​ ​the​ ​“Four​ ​Portals​ ​of Learning”​ ​liberal​ ​education​ ​curriculum​ ​and​ ​the​ ​Associate​ ​of​ ​Arts​ ​in​ ​liberal​ ​studies​ ​track, a​ ​core​ ​component​ ​of​ ​the​ ​university’s​ ​Adult​ ​and​ ​Graduate​ ​Studies​ ​program.​ ​Today,​ ​the college​ ​offers​ ​19​ ​degree​ ​programs,​ ​including​ ​an​ ​Master​ ​of​ ​Fine​ ​Arts​ ​in​ ​interior​ ​design and​ ​a​ ​Bachelor​ ​of​ ​Fine​ ​Arts​ ​in​ ​musical​ ​theater.​ ​Prior​ ​to​ ​coming​ ​to​ ​Brenau,​ ​she​ ​taught​ ​at the​ ​American​ ​University​ ​in​ ​Bulgaria,​ ​was​ ​the​ ​assistant​ ​provost​ ​and​ ​chair​ ​of​ ​the Department​ ​of​ ​Philosophy​ ​at​ ​Saint​ ​Mary’s​ ​University​ ​in​ ​Minnesota​ ​and​ ​headed​ ​the career​ ​development​ ​and​ ​training​ ​branch​ ​at​ ​the​ ​Navy​ ​Operational​ ​Intelligence​ ​Center​ ​in Washington​ ​D.C.​ ​She​ ​holds​ ​a​ ​Ph.D.​ ​and​ ​master’s​ ​degree​ ​in​ ​philosophy​ ​from​ ​the​ ​Catholic University​ ​of​ ​America​ ​and​ ​a​ ​bachelor’s​ ​degree​ ​in​ ​psychology​ ​from​ ​Trinity​ ​College.
