Gale Hansen Starich

Dean of the Graduate School & Ivester College of Health Sciences at Brenau University

Gale​ ​Starich​ ​​has​ ​served​ ​as​ ​dean​ ​of​ ​the​ ​Ivester​ ​College​ ​of​ ​Health​ ​Sciences​ ​since​ ​2002 and​ ​dean​ ​of​ ​the​ ​Sidney​ ​O.​ ​Smith​ ​Jr.​ ​Graduate​ ​School​ ​since​ ​2010.​ ​Since​ ​she​ ​arrived​ ​at Brenau,​ ​the​ ​Ivester College​ ​of​ ​Health​ ​Sciences​ ​has​ ​grown​ ​almost​ ​seven-fold​ ​and​ ​now​ ​offers​ ​14 degrees,​ ​including​ ​a​ ​new​ ​degree​ ​in​ ​exercise​ ​science.​ ​Under​ ​her​ ​leadership,​ ​the​ ​historic nursing​ ​school​ ​experienced​ ​tremendous​ ​growth,​ ​including​ ​its​ ​naming​ ​as​ ​the​ ​Mary​ ​Inez Grindle​ ​School​ ​of​ ​Nursing.​ ​As​ ​head​ ​of​ ​the​ ​graduate​ ​school,​ ​she​ ​was​ ​instrumental​ ​in bringing​ ​the​ ​first​ ​three​ ​doctoral​ ​programs​ ​to​ ​the​ ​university.​ ​Previously,​ ​she​ ​held numerous​ ​positions​ ​at​ ​University​ ​of​ ​Nevada​ ​School​ ​of​ ​Medicine,​ ​including​ ​an​ ​associate professor​ ​position​ ​in​ ​the​ ​internal​ ​medicine​ ​and​ ​physiology​ ​and​ ​cell​ ​biology​ ​departments and​ ​director​ ​of​ ​student​ ​research​ ​for​ ​the​ ​university’s​ ​M.D.​ ​and​ ​Ph.D.​ ​programs.​ ​She​ ​holds a​ ​Ph.D.​ ​in​ ​biochemistry,​ ​a​ ​Master​ ​of​ ​Science​ ​in​ ​zoology​ ​and​ ​a​ ​bachelor’s​ ​in​ ​pre-medicine from​ ​the​ ​University​ ​of​ ​Nevada,​ ​Reno.
