Gale Starich has served as dean of the Ivester College of Health Sciences since 2002 and dean of the Sidney O. Smith Jr. Graduate School since 2010. Since she arrived at Brenau, the Ivester College of Health Sciences has grown almost seven-fold and now offers 14 degrees, including a new degree in exercise science. Under her leadership, the historic nursing school experienced tremendous growth, including its naming as the Mary Inez Grindle School of Nursing. As head of the graduate school, she was instrumental in bringing the first three doctoral programs to the university. Previously, she held numerous positions at University of Nevada School of Medicine, including an associate professor position in the internal medicine and physiology and cell biology departments and director of student research for the university’s M.D. and Ph.D. programs. She holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry, a Master of Science in zoology and a bachelor’s in pre-medicine from the University of Nevada, Reno.
