Maxwell Thompson

Maxwell Thompson is currently Senior Counsel, Regulatory at Brex. Prior to joining Brex, Maxwell was Assistant General Counsel at Paxful from April 2019 to March 2021. There, they were a member of the Firm's FinTech & Blockchain Group and the Cybersecurity, Cybercrime, & Incident Response Group, providing legal counsel to FinTech and traditional financial services clients on a variety of financial regulatory, privacy, and cybersecurity matters, including compliance and corporate issues, third party risk management, and support for new product development and implementation.

Before joining Paxful, Maxwell was an Associate at Murphy & McGonigle PC from October 2018 to March 2019. As a member of the Firm's FinTech & Blockchain Group and the Cybersecurity, Cybercrime, & Incident Response Group, they provided legal counsel to FinTech and traditional financial services clients on a variety of financial regulatory, privacy, and cybersecurity matters, including compliance and corporate issues, third party risk management, and support for new product development and implementation.

Maxwell started their career as Assistant General Counsel, Assistant Corporate Secretary, and AVP at Bank Leumi USA from June 2017 to October 2018. There they served on a six-member in-house legal team covering the US subsidiary of Israel's largest financial institution. In this role they advised bankers, Executives, and the Board of Directors on banking and other financial services regulations, corporate matters, employment inquiries, privacy and cybersecurity, and more. Maxwell worked closely with the bank’s senior management and compliance team to review and revise policies and procedures, perform training, and communicate with regulators. In addition, they managed several functions related to running an in-house legal team, including communicating updates to the CEO, fulfillment of department requirements, and management of legal applications.

Maxwell Thompson has a Juris Doctor from Cardozo School of Law and a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Law from Binghamton University.

They work with Gabe Ledeen - Chief Privacy Officer, Nick Passarelli - Senior Director, Head of Regulatory Compliance, and Elijah Alpher - Director, Associate General Counsel. Maxwell Thompson reports to Frederick Reynolds, Chief Compliance Officer.
