Michelle Matthews has a diverse work experience in the field of design and user experience. Michelle is currently Senior Director of Product Design and Research at Brightline, where they lead a team of eight designers and researchers to create innovative and impactful solutions for digital mental health. Prior to that, they served as Director of Product Design at Brightline and played a key role in building a culture of human-centeredness and compassion in the organization.
Michelle has also worked as a Design Advisor at Arise and altern health, providing their expertise and guidance in design. Michelle has a successful career as a Freelance UX Consultant, specializing in design, strategy, research, and growth. Additionally, they were a Member of the Design Leadership Forum, further enhancing their knowledge and expertise in the field.
Michelle has held significant positions in notable companies such as Headspace Inc., where they served as a Design Lead, leading product and experience design for Headspace Health. Michelle also played a role in improving the health and happiness of the world through mindfulness and human-centered design. Prior to this, they were the Head of User Experience at Soothe, where they oversaw and managed user experience efforts.
Michelle has a strong academic background and has served as a User Experience Instructor at the University of California, Los Angeles. Michelle has also contributed to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts as a committee member at Headspace Inc.
Earlier in their career, Michelle was the Lead Product Designer at Maverick, where they led the company's full redesign for a social media app targeted towards teen girls. Michelle Matthews has a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree in Clinical Social Work from New York University. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from the University at Buffalo. Michelle also has an Associate of Arts degree in Humanities from Erie Community College. In addition to their formal education, Michelle has obtained certifications in Service Design Immersive from Cooper in June 2017, and in Design Research Techniques from Cooper in May 2016.
