Vinay Kuruvila

Vinay Kuruvila is the current CTO at brightwheel. Vinay has also previously served as Sr Director, Head of Product Engineering at Venmo from January 2020 to December 2021. In this role, they led a 300 person organization responsible for building all product features for Venmo, including peer to peer payments, instant transfers, debit card and direct deposit. Under their leadership, the company doubled revenue to $900M+. Vinay also launched QR code payments at several retailers including Walgreens and CVS, the Venmo Credit Card, business profiles, crypto investments, protections for untrusted transactions, and a full app redesign.

Prior to joining Venmo, Kuruvila served as co-founder at Sidelines from January 2011 to December 2013. Vinay then went on to become Head of Product Engineering at Amazon Photos from January 2013 to December 2020. In this role, they helped to build Amazon Photos into a globally scaled business in 9 countries serving 10s of millions of customers and generating $X00 M in revenues. Vinay was responsible for engineering for all product areas including sharing, storytelling & intelligence, growth, Alexa, prints, as well as Dev Ops and QA. Apart from our apps on iOS and Android, Amazon Photos turns millions of Fire TVs and Echo Shows into voice-activated photo frames. Kuruvila grew their team from 6 to 150, with offices in Seattle, Vancouver and Chennai.

Vinay Kuruvila has a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
