Nathan Atkins has a diverse range of work experience spanning several industries. Nathan began their career at IBM as an Equipment Engineer in semiconductor manufacturing, where they were responsible for defining specifications and developing software for measurement equipment integration. Later, they worked at Sterling Information Group as a Software Consultant in manufacturing automation. At KLA-Tencor, they served as a Software Architect, consulting with semiconductor manufacturing companies to implement process control and push the limits of chip technology.
Nathan then joined Cisco, initially as a Solutions Architect for the Managed Service Platform, where they provided architectural direction and integrated various software products. Nathan later became a Product Manager, developing a remote worker unified communications service and creating new processes and policies.
After their tenure at Cisco, Nathan established their own company, Nathan W. Atkins, LLC, specializing in machine learning engineering and Python API software development. Nathan undertook various projects and contracts, including building and deploying models for digital workers compensation underwriting and quoting at Pinnacol Assurance, and reimagining customer experience in workers compensation policy acquisition and support at Cake Insure Innovation Lab. Additionally, Nathan was involved in research and the development, deployment, and operation of data science projects.
Following their time at their own company, Nathan joined DispatchHealth as a Principal Machine Learning Engineer. In this role, they brought together disparate data sources in a new data warehouse, enabling business intelligence and machine learning modeling using technologies such as Prefect (workflow), Spectrum, and Redshift.
Most recently, Nathan has retired from their position at Have Some Fun. Throughout their career, they have demonstrated expertise in machine learning engineering, software development, product management, architectural direction, and process control.
Nathan Atkins has a diverse education history. Nathan earned a Certificate in Data Science from Galvanize Inc in 2017. Prior to that, they obtained a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where they studied from 1986 to 1988. Nathan also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, which they completed from 1980 to 1985. In addition, Nathan pursued graduate studies in Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley starting in 1985, although the end year of their studies there is unknown.
