Chris Smart, CAIA

Chris Smart, CAIA has a diverse work experience spanning over a decade. Chris began their career at Royal Bank of Scotland in 2009, where they held multiple roles including Assistant Director in Financial Sponsor Coverage. In this position, they provided leveraged finance and fund banking services to the Private Equity community, conducting due diligence on over 100 private equity firms and working on deals such as leveraged buyouts and debt financings. Chris also worked as a Senior Analyst in Asset Protection, ensuring compliance with APS rules and conducting data analytics. Additionally, they had a secondment in Investment Banking, where they provided services to international corporate clients in the industrials sector.

In 2014, Chris joined Coutts as a Business Development professional, focused on improving business flow between Coutts and RBS Structured Finance Product teams. Chris also played a key role in developing a strategy to leverage private equity relationships to win new business for Coutts.

From 2015 to 2018, Chris worked at British Business Bank, primarily within the Venture Capital Fund investment team. Chris served as a Senior Investment Manager, Venture Solutions, reviewing due diligence for new primary venture capital fund investments and managing the bank's portfolio of investments. Chris also held the position of Senior Manager, Equity (Venture) & New Programmes Risk, where they provided support for various portfolio requests and investment matters.

Since 2018, Chris has been working at British Patient Capital as a Senior Investment Manager, Funds. In this role, they are responsible for making primary investments in venture and growth capital funds. Chris has led investments in funds focused on sectors such as B2B SaaS, Sustainability, and University spinouts.
