Jake Hobbs

Jake Hobbs has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries, with a focus on the life sciences and healthcare sectors. Jake currently works as an Investment Manager - Life Sciences at British Patient Capital, where they oversee investments in this field. Prior to this, Jake worked as an Investment Analyst at BioCity, where they played a key role in sourcing, evaluating, and executing direct investment deals in early-stage life science and healthcare companies. Jake also helped coordinate angel co-investment operations and developed a strategy for digital health investments. During their time at Source BioScience, Jake worked as a DNA Sequencing Scientist while pursuing a full-time MSc at the University of Nottingham. Jake was responsible for operating the overnight Sanger sequencing service and handling technical troubleshooting and customer interactions. In the past, Jake gained experience as an Industrial Trainee at AstraZeneca, where they utilized CRISPR-Cas9 technology to generate a knock-out cell line for in vitro assays. Jake also worked as an Industrial Trainee at Pfizer, where they focused on characterizing potassium ion channels through electrophysiology, cell culture, molecular biology, and immunocytochemistry techniques, with their work being published in Structure (CellPress). Jake Hobbs completed their Bachelor of Science (Honors) degree with Industrial Placement in Biochemistry at the University of Bath from 2013 to 2017. Jake then pursued an MSc degree in Applied Biopharmaceutical Biotechnology & Entrepreneurship at the University of Nottingham from 2018 to 2019. Currently, Jake is enrolled at Imperial College London for a Skills Bootcamp in Data Science, scheduled from 2022 to 2023.
