Tapani Alasaarela

Tapani Alasaarela is a seasoned optical engineer with extensive experience in mixed reality and hardware engineering, currently serving as Principal Optical Engineer at Microsoft since October 2017, specializing in diffractive optics design, prototyping, and manufacturing. Alasaarela co-founded nanobakers oy and has held advisory roles at BroadBit Batteries while also acting as VP Engineering. Previous roles include Postdoctoral Researcher at Aalto University, where significant advancements in ALD process development were made, and Application Engineer at Beneq Oy, focusing on optical thin film filters and ALD processes. An accomplished academic, Alasaarela completed a Doctorate in Optics at Aalto University, earning numerous citations for high-quality publications. Additional contributions to entrepreneurship were made as a Board Member of Aalto Entrepreneurship Society.
