McClain Powell has a diverse work experience in the education field. Starting in 2010, they worked as a Teacher's Assistant at The Goddard School. They then moved on to become a Research Intern at North Carolina State University in 2011. Following that, they served as a Student Teacher at Clara Byrd Baker Elementary School from 2011 to 2012. McClain then joined Brooke Charter Schools in 2012 as a First Grade Teacher until 2015. They then joined Boston Public Schools as a Kindergarten Teacher from 2015 to 2016. After that, McClain returned to Brooke Charter Schools and held multiple roles, including Second Grade Teacher from 2016 to 2019, ELL Coordinator from 2019 until now, and currently serves as the Director of English Language Programs.
McClain Powell pursued their higher education by first attending William & Mary from 2008 to 2012. During this period, they completed a Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus on Elementary Education and Linguistics. This foundational knowledge equipped him with the necessary skills to pursue a career in education. Later, from 2017 to 2019, they enrolled in the Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development. Here, they earned a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction, specializing in Language and Literacy. This program allowed McClain to gain expertise in designing effective curriculum and teaching literacy skills, further enhancing their professional capabilities in the field of education.
