James Cummings

James Cummings has been with Brookfield Properties since January of 2012 and is currently their Executive Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer. In this role, James leads a department of approximately 275 accounting professionals and is responsible for all aspects of the company’s accounting functions, including financial and operational accounting, public reporting, and compliance with GAAP and Sarbanes Oxley requirements. Prior to their current role, James served as Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer of Brookfield Properties’ Retail segment from January 2012 to June 2021.

Before joining Brookfield Properties, James was with Equity LifeStyle Properties, Inc. from April 2003 to January 2012 where they served as Manager of Financial Planning. In this role, James supervised three analysts on various segments of the ELS business, maintained consolidated flash reporting, was a member of the reservation/accounting software upgrade and conversion team, met reporting needs and special requests of executives, and worked on various other reporting, budgeting and planning projects.

James Cummings attended Wabash College where they studied economics, math, and law. James then went on to attend John Marshall Law School where they earned their JD.

James Cummings reports to Jared Chupaila, CEO. They work with Gretchen Horn - SVP, Chief Technology Officer, Stacie Heron - EVP, General Counsel and Secretary, and John Cournoyer - EVP, Construction, Design & Development Administration.
