Gopi Shah Goda

Senior Fellow at Brookings

Gopi Shah Goda is a Senior Fellow at The Brookings Institution, focusing on the Retirement Security Project and holding the inaugural Alice M. Rivlin Chair in Economic Policy since October 2024. Previously, Gopi served as a Research Associate and Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research from April 2010 to August 2025, and held various senior positions, including Senior Fellow and Deputy Director, at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research from September 2009 to September 2024. Gopi also worked as a Senior Economist at the Council of Economic Advisers in the White House from July 2021 to July 2022 and was a Robert Wood Johnson Scholar in Health Policy Research at Harvard University from August 2007 to July 2009. Gopi began a career in actuarial science as an Actuarial Associate at Northwestern Mutual from August 2000 to July 2002, achieving Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries in 2004. Gopi's academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University and a B.S. in Math and Actuarial Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
