Nicol Turner Lee

Nicol Turner Lee has a vast work experience spanning several organizations. Nicol is currently a Senior Fellow in the Governance Studies Department at The Brookings Institution, where they also serve as the Director of the Center for Technology Innovation. Prior to that, they worked as the Vice President and Chief Research & Policy Officer at the Minority Media and Telecommunications Council (MMTC) from 2013 to 2016. From 2012 to 2013, they served as the President and CEO of NAMIC. Before that, they worked for the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies as the Vice President and Director of the Media and Technology Institute from 2009 to 2012. Nicol also held the role of Board Chair at the Center for Economic Progress from 2002 to 2011. Additionally, they worked at One Economy Corporation as the Vice President of Digital Inclusion from 2002 to 2009, and founded the Neighborhood Technology Resource Center in 2000. Nicol Turner Lee also had brief stints at the Community Technology Centers Network as a former Chicago CTCNet Board Member in 2002-2003, United Airlines as a Consultant from 1995 to 2003, and participated in the Proctor and Gamble Minority Summer Internship Program in 1989.

Nicol Turner Lee completed their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree with a double major in Sociology and African American Studies from Colgate University, where they studied from 1986 to 2000. Following this, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Sociology at Northwestern University, completing their studies from 2000 to 2006. Additionally, they obtained a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from the University of Illinois Chicago, although the start and end years for this certification are not provided.
