Shannon Meraw has a diverse work experience in the fields of communications and external engagement. Shannon has held various roles at The Brookings Institution, starting as a Communications Intern in 2009 and progressing to Senior Director of Communications and External Engagement for the Economic Studies program. In their current role, Shannon leads strategic communications, media relations, external outreach, digital strategy, events, and impact tracking for the program, supporting the development and promotion of new research by a team of economists. Shannon is also responsible for long-term strategic communications efforts and program-level decision-making. Prior to their work at Brookings, Shannon worked as a Communications Specialist at Tax Analysts and as an Office Associate at Macro Solutions. Additionally, they gained experience as a Yoga Instructor at Gold's Gym.
Shannon Meraw obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Political and Persuasive Communication from George Mason University, where they studied from 2007 to 2011. In 2013, they obtained a certification as a RYT 200 Yoga Teacher from Yava Yoga by Cynthia Bialek. In 2017, they received a Communication Management Professional (CMP) certification from IABC (International Association of Business Communicators).
