Mikal Lee has a diverse and extensive work experience. Mikal started their career as a student at Marist College from 1995 to 1999. In 2003, they founded SayWord Entertainment and worked there until 2010. During this time, they also founded Fresh Roots Music in 2007 and served as the Founder, Owner, and CEO. In the same year, they joined Nomadic Wax as an Artist and Educator.
From 2010 to 2015, Mikal worked at Urban Word NYC as the Program Director. Mikal then joined Brooklyn Academy of Music in 2015 as the Education Manager for their Word. Sound. Power. Programming.
In addition to their various roles, Mikal was a Cultural Ambassador for the U.S. Department of State from 2013 to 2014, where they served as the lead educator and emcee for the American Music Abroad cultural exchange program.
Mikal Lee obtained a Bachelor's degree in Literature from Marist College from 1995 to 1999. They also obtained a B.A in English from Marist College during the same time period. Additionally, Mikal obtained the Innovative Cultural Advocacy Fellowship certification from the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI) in December 2016.
