Mary Jo Callan is the current VP of Community Engagement & Executive Director of the Howard R. Swearer Center for Public Service at Brown University. Prior to their current position, they served as the Director of the Edward Ginsberg Center at the University of Michigan from August 2015 to July 2021. In this role, they were responsible for leading the vision and strategic direction for the center, which focuses on engaged scholarship and social justice education through civic engagement and leadership. Callan also served as the Director of the Office of Community & Economic Development for Washtenaw County from December 2007 to December 2015. In this role, they were responsible for maximizing the effectiveness of local government’s efforts to foster quality of life for Washtenaw County residents.
Mary Jo Callan has a Doctorate in Higher Ed Policy and Leadership from William & Mary, a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan, a Society of Human Resource Management Certificate from Eastern Michigan University, and a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences, General Studies and Humanities with a Teaching Certification from the University of Michigan.
