Don MacKinnon

Don MacKinnon began his career at Ontario Hydro in 1971 and is a lineman by trade. His union activism began more than 30 years ago and has included 11 years as the Power Workers’ Union’s (PWU) Vice-President before becoming the President of PWU in 2000. He retired from this position in 2017.

Don has a reputation as a skilled and innovative negotiator who uses mutual gains approaches to achieve settlements that address business needs while fully respecting the rights and values of employees.

He is recognized as an authority on Ontario’s electricity system and with previous appointments to the Ontario Ministry of Energy Electricity Transition Committee and the Ontario Government Electricity Conservation and Supply Task Force.

He is a member of the Order of Ontario and a recipient of The Canadian Forces Medallion for Distinguished Service, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and in 2015 was named as the Electricity Human Resources Canada Winner of the Award of Excellence for Leader of the Year.
