Mark Barnett

Mark Barnett is the current VP of Education at BSD Education. Mark has dedicated their career to developing innovative approaches to education, with a focus on project based learning, digital skills and makerspaces.

Mark Barnett's journey in education began in 2013 when they co-produced the San Antonio Mini Maker Faire. The Maker Faire is a celebration of creativity and innovation, and it was through this event that Mark first became interested in exploring the potential of maker spaces in education.

In 2014, Mark co-founded Libre Learn Lab, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting open source and free software in education. Through Libre Learn Lab, Mark developed educational programs and projects that utilize open source tools and technologies.

In 2016, Mark began working for the Intercultural Development Research Association (IDRA) as their Chief IT Strategist. In this role, Mark helped to develop educational technology programs and projects that were designed to serve students from all over the United States. IDRA is committed to providing opportunities to underserved youth and preparing schools and teachers with innovative approaches that are grounded in social justice.

In 2017, Mark left IDRA to take on the role of Makerspace Coordinator at The Harbour School in Hong Kong. In this role, Mark helped to establish The Harbour School as a world-renowned facility for project-based learning in a makerspace setting. Mark facilitated week-long maker-focused learning experiences for K-12 students that utilized digital skills, fabrication

Mark Barnett has a PhD in Computer Engineering from Chiang Mai University, a Master's Degree in Instructional Design & Technology from Full Sail University, and a Bachelor of Science in Science Education from Wayland Baptist University. Mark is also certified by the Texas Education Agency in 4th-8th Grade Generalist Certification.
