Michael Smithers has a diverse work experience spanning multiple companies and roles. Michael began their career as a Service Desk Analyst at Banco Santander from November 2011 to November 2012. Michael then worked as a Global Access Manager at Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. from January 2013 to March 2013. Michael briefly served as a Service Desk Analyst at Mercedes-Benz UK Ltd from May 2013 to August 2013 before becoming a Service Desk Engineer at Mirus IT Solutions from August 2013 to February 2014. Afterwards, they joined Peverel as a Windows 7 Rollout Engineer from June 2014 to September 2014. From October 2014 to present, they have been employed at BSI, starting as an IT Support Analyst and progressing through various positions including IT Support Engineer, IT Infrastructure Engineer, Technical Security Lead, Head of Security Operations, and their current role as Head of Security Operations & Architecture.
Michael Smithers attended the University of Wales, Cardiff from 2010 to 2011, where they studied Computer Science. Michael also obtained various certifications, including Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate from Microsoft in 2020, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) from (ISC)² in 2019, Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) from (ISC)² in 2017, PRINCE2® Practitioner certificate in Project Management from BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT in 2017, and BT324 - Barracuda Backup Certified Engineer from Barracuda in 2016. Michael also earned the MiVoice Business System Administration certification from Mitel in 2015 and the MCPS: Microsoft Certified Professional certification from Microsoft in 2009.
