Gilbert Brunet

Group Executive And Chief Scientist at Bureau of Meteorology

Gilbert Brunet has extensive work experience in meteorology and research. Gilbert served as the Group Executive and Chief Scientist at the Bureau of Meteorology from 2018. Prior to this, they held various roles at Environment Canada from 1993 to 2018, including Director and Head of Section. Gilbert also worked as a Research Scientist at the Met Office from 2012 to 2015. Before that, they held research positions at École normale supérieure, University of Cambridge, and Ottawa University.

Gilbert Brunet began their education at Collège St-Alexandre, where they completed their high school degree from 1970 to 1975. Following that, they pursued a DEC (Diploma of College Studies) from CEGEP de l’Outaouais between 1975 and 1977.

Brunet then attended Université Laval in 1977-1978, majoring in Physics, before moving on to Université de Montréal. At the latter institution, they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Physics from 1978 to 1980, and then continued their studies there, earning a Master's degree in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics from 1980 to 1982.

Finally, Brunet completed their education by pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Meteorology at McGill University between 1984 and 1989.
