Alyssa Melendez has a diverse work experience. Alyssa began their career in 2016 as a Jesuit Volunteer with Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC) Northwest, where they were part of a one-year service program. Alyssa then joined the Fordham University Science Technology Entry Program (STEP) as a tutor/counselor and environmental research instructor from 2013-2016. In 2015, they were a Field Research Leader for the Wildlife Conservation Society's Project TRUE (Teens Researching Urban Ecology). In 2018, they worked as a Field Crew for BROOKWOOD COMMUNITY FARM INC and as a Tufts Institute of the Environment Student Research Fellow 2018-2019. Alyssa then joined Equal Exchange in 2019 as an Avocado Category Manager, Avocado Category Lead, and Avocado Supply Chain Coordinator. In 2022, they are set to become an Operations and Supply Chain Manager for Burlap and Barrel: Single Origin Spices and a USDA Fruit and Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee Member for the USDA.

Alyssa Melendez completed a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Environmental Policy and Humanitarian Studies from Fordham University in 2016. Alyssa then went on to pursue a Master of Science (MS) in Agriculture, Food, and Environment from The Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, which they completed in 2019. Additionally, they obtained a Water: Systems, Science and Society Certificate from Tufts University in 2019. Lastly, they hold a certification in CPR and First Aid.
