Nicholas C. Neupauer

Dr. Nicholas C. Neupauer has served as president of Butler County Community College since 2007. His presidency at a single institution exceeds that of any current chief executive officer among Pennsylvania’s 14 community colleges, its 14 State System of Higher Education universities and its four state-related institutions.   

BC3 has reigned under Dr. Neupauer. BC3 has been selected as the No. 1 community college in Pennsylvania five times since 2015 -- by BestColleges.com for 2020 and in 2017, and by Schools.com in 2019, 2017 and in 2015.   

BC3 has delivered under Dr. Neupauer. BC3 has been identified as having the most affordable tuition and highest salary-to-cost ratio among more than 40 regional institutions in the Pittsburgh Business Times’ two most recent studies of U.S. Department of Education data.  

BC3 has excelled under Dr. Neupauer. BC3’s Rho Phi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, an international academic honor society, has maintained an ultimate five-star status since 2017.  

BC3 has triumphed under Dr. Neupauer. BC3 cohorts have captured two consecutive Presidents’ Cups in the Western Pennsylvania Community College Leadership Institute.  

BC3 has served under Dr. Neupauer. BC3’s commitment to being the community’s college was confirmed in 2019 with a Collaborator of the Year Award.  

BC3 has expanded under Dr. Neupauer. BC3’s creation of additional locations in Brockway and in Ford City addressed under-represented counties with higher education. BC3 @ Brockway in 2020 graduated its first class of students with Nursing, R.N., degrees.  

BC3 has prospered under Dr. Neupauer. BC3’s fundraising has increased significantly since Dr. Neupauer became president, with assets in the BC3 Education Foundation Inc. rising from $8.9 million to $20.4 million. A three-year Pioneer Proud Campaign ending in 2016 raised $6.85 million, overwhelmingly eclipsing its goal of $5.5 million, and included contributions from 82 percent of BC3 employees and board members. The college has received five $1 million gifts and one $500,000 gift since July 2014.  

BC3 has partnered under Dr. Neupauer. BC3’s 2020 agreement with Concordia Lutheran Ministries will result in up to $10 million in capital and operating costs, and scholarship support.  

Prior to being appointed as president, Dr. Neupauer served as BC3’s vice president for academic affairs and as dean of humanities and social science. He was also an assistant professor and chair of the Communication Department at Marist College.    

Dr. Neupauer has served as board chair of the Pennsylvania Commission for Community Colleges, as chair of two Butler County Heart Association walks and of the Butler County Chamber of Commerce. He and his wife, Tamatha, have also volunteered as co-chairs of the Butler County March of Dimes walk. Dr. Neupauer is a member of the executive committee and a board member of the Community Development Corp. of Butler County.    

Dr. Neupauer has received a Jean B. Purvis Community Cornerstone Award, presented to an individual who has contributed significantly to the health and well-being of the community; and a Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction, the most prestigious award presented by Phi Theta Kappa.  

His expertise in communication has been recognized with the distinguished Pacesetter Award from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (District 1), and with the Arthur V. Ciervo Award from the Association of Communicators in Education for excellence in communication and public relations to advance higher education.  

He earned a doctorate degree in education in communication and instruction from West Virginia University.
