Karla Hirokawa has worked in the field of neuroscience for over a decade. Karla began their career in 2010 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. In 2011, they moved to the Allen Institute, where they were a Principal Research Associate. In 2020, they joined Cajal Neuroscience as a Scientist.
Karla Hirokawa obtained their Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Iowa in 2003, majoring in Biology/Biological Sciences, General. Karla then went on to receive their Doctor of Philosophy degree from UC Irvine in 2009, specializing in Developmental Neuroscience.
