James Spradley is currently serving as a Deputy Attorney General at the California Department of Justice, contributing to both appellate and trial teams since September 2023. Previously, James held the position of Graduate Legal Assistant in the Criminal Division, focusing on appeals and trials during the Honors Program Class of 2023. Prior to legal roles, James taught English and literature as an English Teacher for Teach For America from July 2018 to June 2020, and managed enterprise accounts for Oracle's Core Technology division, achieving significant sales with the Union Pacific Railroad Company. James's career began in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving as an Enlisted Petty Officer involved in law enforcement and search and rescue missions. Educationally, James earned a Doctor of Law (JD) from the University of San Diego School of Law, a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from UCLA, and an Associate's degree in Psychology from Saddleback College.
