Michael Cohen is currently serving as a Deputy Attorney General at the California Department of Justice since February 2024. Previously, Cohen held positions as an Associate and Law Clerk at Renne Public Law Group from March 2021 to January 2024. Additional experience includes being a Legal Fellow with the UCLA Voting Rights Project, a Research Volunteer for the Coalition to Preserve, Protect & Defend, and serving in various roles at Public Counsel, including Co-Chair of the CARES Clinic. Cohen's background also features a brief tenure as a Judicial Extern for the California Court of Appeal and experience as Director of Communications for the Southern Africa Education Fund. Cohen earned a Doctor of Law (JD) in Public Interest Law and Policy from UCLA, along with a Master's in Legal and Political Theory from UCL, and a Bachelor's in Philosophy and English Literature from the University of Colorado.
